Last weekend I participated in the Data Dive organized by Data Science for Social Good Berlin . It was an amazing experience full of researchers, data scientists, and other folks willing to develop solutions, visualizations and insights from the data of the participating organizations: Jambo Bukoba, Street Football World and DataLook.
The goal on the Data Dive was to extract meaningful insights from the data of the organization. They had data from more than 1500 schools in Tanzania, their grades in national exams and rankings, and information on whether the school had teachers that followed Jambo Bukoba workshops or were awarded Jambo Bukoba projects.
The data clearly showed that the performance of the schools improves after participating in a workshop. Moreover, we showed that the workshops have a long-lasting impact: the performance of the schools continues to improve during the following years after the workshop.
Finally, a regression analysis confirmed the huge importance of the participation in workshops in the grades of the students.
